Eid Al Adha is a four-day Islamic festival that begins on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijja in the Islamic calendar.

Every Eid Al Adha, the Muslim community in the Philippine send numbers of Muslim to Saudi Arabia to participate with the celebration while other Muslims who remain in the Philippines celebrate Eid Al Adha in their traditional way by starting their Eid Al Adha with a prayer, they go to the nearest mosque on their place and pray to Allah, after that they go to their families and friend’s house to celebrate the feast together.

Eid Al Adha is being observed to commemorate Abraham, because of his willingness when Allah (Allah is a Muslim term for God) asked him to offer his only son. The Muslims treats Abraham as a good example of faith because Abraham did not question Allah when he gave him instruction instead he followed and obeyed him right away.
Eid Al Adha Traditions
During Eid Al Adha, the Muslims slaughter animals to commemorate Abraham’s trials. They slaughter animals like goat, sheep and camel. According to the Muslim’s beliefs, Allah created man with power over other creations and that includes the animals. Man is allowed to eat meat if Allah’s name is pronounced while taking the animal’s life. It is Muslims’ tradition to say Allah’s name every time they slaughter an animal. This is being practiced to remind the divinity of life.
The sacrificed meat during Eid Al Adha is being divided into three portions. One third of the meat is being eaten by the immediate family and relatives. Other one third is for the friends and the last portion will be donated to the poor. This act symbolizes the eagerness to give up all thenthings they have to show their faith to Allah. It also symbolizes their willingness to help someone who is in need which also depicts that all the blessings given by Allah should be shared to other people especially to those who are in need.
Other traditions during Eid Al Adha are attending morning prayers at the mosque and visiting the family and friend’s house and with the exchanging of presents and greetings.
Eid Al Adha’s Importance
This religious traditions show that for the sake of faith, man is willing to give up everything he has to follow the command of God. It also shows that nothing is more important than to obey His command. Man’s faith will bring him to a better place.
Muslims may have different traditions like Eid al adha from other religious sectors but it shows what all these sectors have in common and that is their faith in God.
