The colorful festival of Koronada City known as Hinugyaw Festival reveals the rich culture of the city despite of their diversity.

WHEN IS HINUGYAW FESTIVAL IN 2015

Hinugyaw Festival will be celebrated on Saturday, January 10, 2015.

Hinugyaw Festival always takes place on the 10th of January annually.

WHERE IS HINUGYAW FESTIVAL BEING CELEBRATED

Hinugyaw festival can be witnessed in Koronadal City, South Cotabato, a province in Mindanao region.

HINUGYAW FESTIVAL 2014 THEME:

Hinugyaw Festival 2014 was themed, “The Heroes: A story of living traditions and culture towards growth and independence” which showcased the best of the Koronadal City and its people and gave tribute to the locals who had contributed to what the city has achieved and its advancements and development that made them attractive to the local and foreign investors and tourists as well.

ALL ABOUT HINUGYAW FESTIVAL

Koronadal City’s Hinugyaw festival is being named as the “festival of the festivals” because this celebrates different kinds of cultures that inhabit on the valley of Koronadal for many years.

It is actually a week-long celebration where during its last day, they show off the highlights and climax of the festival. It is also lavishly celebrated because of its conjunction to Koronadal City’s Foundation Anniversary. This 2015, they are celebrating their 75th Foundation Anniversary.

The meaning of Hinugyaw came from the Hiligaynon word meaning merrymaking. Hinugyaw festival is colorful festivity that shows the history of Koronadal. It shows that different types of ethnic group came to the valley of Koronadal and it shows how each group made Koronadal to what it is right now. The search for Lakambini of Koronadal also takes place in this festivity.

The festivity starts with a street parade followed by a drum and lyre competition, participated by grade school and high school students. The participants are all in a colorful costumes showing their prepared performances.  In the evening, Koronadal own version of Mardi Gras took place in the street of Koronadal wherein the participants shows their creative and colorful costumes.
