History of Philippine Independence
The Philippines was under the reign of different oppressors for a number of years. On June 12, 1898, General Emilio Aguinaldo declared the Philippines’ Independence. On this day, the flag was raised and the national anthem was played for the first time. Unfortunately, the celebration was cut short because Spain and the United States did not acknowledge this declaration.
The Treaty of Paris of 1899 ended the war between Spain and the United States. Soon, the control over the Philippine government was under the power of the United States. But the Filipinos did not allow their country to be once again be ruled by the aliens and revolted against the Americans in 1899 and achieved sovereignty on July 4, 1946. Through the Republic Act No. 4166, Philippine Independence was officially observed on June 12.
