The Zamboanga Hermosa Festival, traditionally known as the Fiesta Pilar was declared to be observed on the entire month of October in honor to the miraculous image of Our Lady of Pilar and has a 12 days and nights of events and festivities.

The Zamboanga Hermosa Festival was entrenched in Zamboanga’s rich Hispanic history and its profound religious fervour to the Nuestra Senora del Pilar who is the patron saint of Zamboanga even during the Spanish regime. They believe that it is their patron saint that unifies their culture and historical symbol and safeguards the boundary and its dwellers from foreign intruders.
In October 12, 1936, President Manuel L. Quezon signed the Commonwealth Act 39, establishing the Charter of Zamboanga City thus, appropriating the celebration of their patron saint.
Impressive Structures of Zamboanga Hermosa Festival
Demonstrating the Zamboanguenos’ regard and esteem to Our Lady of Pilar, there are nine nights of procession followed by cultural performances, fireworks display, musical events in street parade with colourful and awesome costumes.
There are also art and flower exhibits for everyone’s appreciation, street dance competition, cultural shows, musical concerts, trade fair, fashion shows, float parade and the search for Miss Zamboanga beauty pageant or the Mascotta competition.
One of the most awaited parts of the celebration is the “Regatta de Zamboanga where the famous colourful “Vintas” are sailed on the sea in a race competition.
