Lawiswis kawayan folk dance is known as the Waray folk dance. It is dance in the Visayas region by the waray people. Through the years Lawiswis kawayan dance is not only dance by the waray but also by the Filipinos in different region of the Philippines and come up with 4 versions of the Lawiswis kawayan dance. One version of Lawiswis kawayan folk dance usually dances during house blessing.
THE LAWISWIS KAWAYAN DANCE ITSELF
Lawiswis kawayan dance is composed of male and female dancers. The female dancers wear a colorful Maria Clara costume and holding a bouquet of flowers while the male dancers wear Barong. The dancers dance in pair while dancing a waltz-like dance step. The dance steps are mainly composed of swaying and moving in circles. Lawiswis Kawayan folk dance is accompanied by a music played by string instruments.

Before Lawiswis kawayan folk dance was only danced by the Warays and people from other province in the Visayas region but today Lawiswis kawayan dance is being dance by people from different region throughout the Philippines. It is presented during programs commemorating Nationalism and it is also dance during school programs and school’s foundation day. It is also presented by the Filipinos in other countries.
