Family is composed of a Father, Mother and child but when the time comes, the child has to leave his family to be on his own but not in the Philippines. Close Family Ties is a custom that still practicing in the Philippines.
One of the most precious traits of the Filipinos is the close family ties. Compared to other nationalities Filipino keeps their relationship to their families intact. Unlike to other countries wherein the children are moving out of the house and lived all by themselves when they reach college. According to them it will make the children more dependent. Though it makes a lot of sense Filipinos choose not to practice it.
THE FILIPINO FAMILY
In the family, the father is considered the head of the family, his words has powers. He is the provider of the family and the protector while the Mother is the one who takes care everything in their house and the one who will look after their children. The children are the life of the family; they give joy to their parents. The children respect their parents and other elders in the family. One of the most known traits of the Filipinos is the Po and Opo; children pay respect to their elders by talking to them with Po and Opo. One trait that being teach by the family.
Because of the value of the Filipinos to their family, some family lived in one house together. That includes the grandparents, the aunties and uncles, and all the cousins. The good thing about it is it is more fun to live with a big family and you will feel more protected because you known there is always someone who can back you up. The downside is family feud can be encounter from time to time and if you are the type of person who wants privacy and don’t like noises, this is not for you. But not all Filipino families are like that some choose to moved out of their house when they got married and have a life of their own. But that doesn’t mean that their relationship will stop when they got married. Filipino families find ways of having a get together. They are having a reunion every year or they see to it that they will be together every Christmas or New Year.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FAMILY
Feud is a normal thing between family members and sometimes it is the cause why some family members decided to leave their homes but no matter how deep is the reason of the feud there will come a time that they will reconcile and the good thing about Filipino families is when one of their family members is in trouble or having a problem, they are always there to back him up and help him whatever his problem is. They never let anybody down. The love for the family is still a strong Filipino trait.
